Looks like my water pump might have shit the bed. As I was pulling out of the garage this morning, I noticed a nice puddle of coolant on the garage floor. And come to think of it, the fan was running a little faster than expected yesterday. But no overheating warnings or anything.

Anyway, I think I can tackle the pump replacement IF I could get the damn car off the ground safely. My car is so low that I can't get a jack to the center lift point. I can get the jack under the side lift point, by then I can't get a jack stand in place.

Anyone have low-profile ramps, a low-profile floor jack or, even better, a lift I can borrow??

I've thought about building ramps out of wood, but I don't have anywhere to store them. I'm thinking that I can jack the car up from the side and place a jack stand under the control arm/knuckle. Then I should have plenty of room to get the jack under the center point and go from there.

EDIT: I was able to get the car off the ground by walking it up using my low-profile floor jack, an old floor jack that is not-so low profile and jack stands.

And there is definitely a leak. Everything is so crammed in it's hard to tell where the leak truly is coming from. I'm going to replace the water pump and thermostat and hope that's it. I guess I'll know more once I pull the pump and t-stat.

As I'm pulling the water pump out, I come to find out that one of the bolts has lost its head. So now I have to figure out how to extract a bolt. Luckily, part of it is sticking out. However, I can't get a solid grip on it to back it out. Damnit!

Sears/Craftsman have several tools to handle that situation. You can weld a nut or similar to the exposed bit as a last resort if the tools don't work.
