Instead of having different threads related to state inspections, we're now going to have this one, in which I will answer any and every question you have regarding state inspections.

(Yes, I'm a licensed inspector. No, I will not pass your car with illegal shit done to it.)

Do beer cans and pizza boxes act as extra credit when inspecting an E30? (I'm due in May)

Wow...this is as far as this thread has gone? I was expecting a question or three about tunes and catless DP's...but nothing?!?!? I don't currently have aftermarket DP's, but I am curious about (hypothetically, of course) whether my 07 335i with JB4 would pass if I put BMS downpipes on it.

So the e46 has essentially 3 mufflers, 2 resonators(which muffle sound) and the rear most muffler. Would it fail inspection if *hypothetically now* I cut my rear most muffler off?

NC only requires a car to have a muffler, a turbo counts, the number of them and how many came stock make no difference.

I was hoping this thread would actually have some info on a good place to get our cars inspected. Wink

I need to get my M5 inspected before I can register it (still waiting on title) but I don't want some schmuck at a Jiffy Lube ripping the front splitter off my car, or getting confused by the SMG and driving it into a wall...

edit: Also, does anyone know what the tolerance is for tint here? PO has 23% on and I'm pretty sure it's going to be too dark to pass....

Does my 86 E30 have to have a catalytic converter to pass? I know it is a "safety inspection" but I wasn't sure if they look for the cat or not.

For the visual part of the inspection, yes, something that looks like a stock or aftermarket cat needs to be there, provided they bother to look for it...Smile
