No unfortunately it's not me... Crying or Very sad

I've got a buddy, my old flight instructor, who's mentioned that he's interested in getting into road racing.
He did do some amateur stock car type racing a few years back on ovals, so he's not new to racing.
I'm certain that this is for fun racing.

So for those of you that have taken that jump, any feedback/suggestions on which Organization, Group, Class, Car, etc...would you recommend and why?

I realize the answer can depend on alot of factors, all of which I currently don't know because we're going to talk later in the week.

Just give me an idea of what you guys like about certain organizations and/or clubs, rules, spec vs not, # of races per season, distance to said races, etc...

Just to kind of define the ballpark a bit.

Appreciate it fellas! cheers

Nasa or scca, spec if he's not super rich and wants the best racing. Go where the field is biggest, its not about the car its about the competition. Spec miata or spec e30 are hard to beat in this area, other regions of the country vary. Buy a built proven car, don't build one. Take whatever you think it costs and double that. Pick a class and find a car, not the other way around. Get competitive and comfortable in the car before you go race it.

he could also rent a couple of rides before he decides what he wants to really get in to...there are plenty of shops/teams/people that rent spec miata, spec e30's, etc...that will let him sample the racing without a huge commitment

renting is also an option to owning a race car...it will be more expensive on a per race basis but you eliminate the cost/hassle of owning, maintaining, and transporting the car

Good points as well. Cool

And since I've been away from the track for so long, any leads on where to look for some of these rental opportunities?

Thanks
