I have 19" wheels on my 335 with 235/35/19 tires. Ideally, I'd like a little more rubber between the road and the wheel. Sure, getting a set of 18" wheels would be the ideal scenario, but also much more costly. Let's say that while I am saving up for new 18" wheels, would it make any sense to switch to a 245/40/19 tire? Yes, I know that going from 235 to 245 doesn't really increase sidewall depth, but I want to go 245 anyway. I'll be due for tires in the near future, regardless.

You're sort of right and sort of wrong that switching from a 235 to a 245 doesn't increase sidewall height.

Example
275/40/19
275x40 = 11,100
11,100 divided by 1270=8.66
8.66+20= 28.66" tire height.

Side wall height from rim to road would be
8.66 divided by 2= 4.33"
Remember 1/2" will be covered by rim

235/35 is 25.4" in height
245/40 is 26.7 in height

To get tread width
245 x .03937 = 9.64"

Hope this helped.

The difference of sidewall height between 235 and 245 is negligible … maybe an 1/8". Going from a 35 to a 40 profile makes a bigger difference. Is going from a 35 to a 40 a stupid idea? I know it will affect the speedo reading to some extent.
